Advanced Staff Fire Warden Training

Course Description

To provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively perform the role and responsibilities of a Fire Marshal and to ensure that all participants are adequately trained in the usage of safety equipment (first aid fire fighting equipment) as set out under the provisions of the 2005 Safety, Health and Welfare Act and associated regulations and cognisant with fire evacuation procedures as set out in the Fire Services Act 1981 (Amended 2003).

Programme objectives

To give all course participants:

• A general knowledge of current fire safety legislation in relation to the workplace
• A working knowledge of the chemistry of fire, the spread of fire and various methods on the prevention of spread of fire
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of the duties of a fire marshal on a day-to-day basis and in the event of a fire emergency
• Theoretical and practical knowledge in the safe and correct of first aid fire fighting equipment
• Management of fire safety maintenance records including emergency lighting

Training approach

The course involves a lecture (utilising verbal, PowerPoint and video presentations), a classroom question and answers session and an outdoors practical session using fire extinguishers on controlled fires.

Assessment and certification

Assessment is based on the participation of attendees in both the theoretical and practical modules of the course as well as a short written question paper. A certificate attesting to the attendees’ participation in and attendance of the course is issued.
