To ensure that all participants are adequately trained in the correct procedures concerning manual handling in the workplace as set out under the provisions of the 2005 Safety, Health and Welfare Act and the 2007 General Applications Regulations

To give all candidates:
a) A general knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of employers and employees as per the 2005 Act and 2007 Regulations
b) A knowledge of the structure of the back and manual handling related injuries
instruction and demonstration of safe lifting procedures and differing lifting scenarios

Training approach
The course involves a lecture (utilising verbal, PowerPoint and video presentations), a classroom question and answers session and an indoors practical session involving the attendees in various manual handling activities.
Assessment and certification
Assessment is based on the participation of attendees in both the theoretical and practical modules of the course. A certificate attesting to the attendees’ participation in and attendance of the course is issued.
